Uganda is face with looming land and natural resource crises; that are turning into protracted states of fragility and insecurity, endangering individual liberties and rights and compounding already-existing vulnerabilities and inequalities like unequal access to resources and rights and control over decisions that have a life-changing impact.
Northern Uganda at the moment is considered a post conflict situation aggravated by contextual customary land rights abuses and violations, land dispute and violence are rampant causes of disharmony, land eviction against vulnerable and other marginalized groups remains one of the major systemic and endemic human rights violations and abuse.
Although Goteo-Uganda (formerly PID-Uganda) is a faith-based organization, support to communities affected by land and natural resource conflict is our Apostolic Creed. We have been operating in northern Uganda since 2013.
Goteo is empowered by international instruments and commitments to support marginalized women and implement its strategy to quell tensions on land and natural resource conflicts in northern Uganda such as:
1. UN Sustainable Development Goals (2015), The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination (1981)
2. The Beijing Platform for Action (1995)
3. UN Women, Peace, and Security Resolutions (2000),
4. The Call to Action on Protection from Gender-based Violence in Emergencies (2015)
5. The World Humanitarian Summit and Grand Bargain (2016) etc.
We strive to give people greater agency over their lives and the decisions that impact them because we respect their action.
We support people individually and collaborate across differences to build an equitable and long-lasting society.
We value the viewpoints and contributions of all individuals and communities in their struggle against poverty and injustice, as we celebrate diversity and differences.
